[593] Texuntque fugas et proelia ludo, make complicated evolutions in sham flights and sham fights. ‘Texunt’ is the important word, which, taken in connexion with ‘haud alio cursu,’ brings out the comparison with the labyrinth. ‘Ludo’ = ‘per ludum,’ ‘ludendo,’ as in v. 674 below. ‘A gamesome tangle of flying and fighting.’
