Forb. quotes Sil. 3. 300 (of the Marmaridae), “Ad quorum cantum serpens oblita veneni, Ad quorum tactum mites iacuere cerastae.” Pliny (l. c.) and Sil. 8. 496 foll. speak of the whole Marsian race as serpent charmers.
