Here as in 7. 215, it is constructed somewhat irregularly with ‘fallit,’ as a sort of abl. of respect, deceives him in respect of the line of road, much as if ‘fallit’ could be interchanged with “errare facit.” Or we might say that ‘regione’ was abl. instrum., deceives by the line of road, i. e. by ignorance of the line of road, like “ignota captus regione viarum” Val. F. 2. 43, quoted by Forb. Med. a m. p. had ‘falli,’ which Heins, approved, taking ‘falli timor’ as = “timor ne falleretur.
