CHAP. 44.—CANCAMUM AND TARUM.

From the confines of the country which produces cinnamon and cassia, cancamum1 and tarum2 are imported; but these substances are brought by way of the Nabatæan Troglodytæ, a colony of the Nabatæi.

1 A gum resin of some unknown species, but not improbably, Fée thinks, the produce of some of the Amyrides. Sprengel thinks that it was produced from the Gardenia gummifera.
