HJM. hält den Ausdruck für unerträglich und streicht alia, indem er in ealia eine Anticipation von salut sieht; vgl. 32.23.9. Der Umstand, unter dem die Ermutigung eintritt, ist Subjekt geworden (ullima necessitas) und so desperatio nebst indignitas in den Abl. getreten; Diod. 30, 12 hat (wohl nach Pol.): ἐνίοτε γὰρ τὰ παραστήματα τῶν ἀνδρῶν καὶ τὰ τελέως ἀπηλπισμένα πρὸς ἀπεγνωσμένην ἄγει συντέλειαν.
