Galen (old edd. also “Galien”=mediaeval Latin ‘Galienus’, “Gallen, Gallon”): celebrated physician of the 2nd cent. A.D., All'sW. II. iii. 12. Cor. II. i. 130 “the most sovereign prescription in ” ; (hence gen.) a physician Wiv. II. iii. 29 “What says my Æsculapius? my Galen?.”
