FULGINIA
(Foligno) Umbria, Italy.
A late
unwalled praefectura on the Via Flaminia. It prospered
under the Empire, owing to its situation at a crossroads
and its connections with Perusia and Picenum by the
pass of Plestia. It was inscribed in the tribus Cornelia.
The ancient town lies under the modern one; the most
significant remains are four Roman bridges, close together. Remains of an amphitheater lie E of the town
site. There is a Museo Civico in Palazzo Trinci.
