MONTE NAVONE
or MONTE NAONE (“Nakona”)
Enna, Sicily.
In the commune of Piazza Armerina. This is probably the site of the Greek city of
Nakona. The archaeological zone consists of two distinct
areas, one of which is surrounded by an agger still visible
on the S slope of the hill. The city developed from E to
W along an axis coinciding with a still recognizable
street. The necropolis for this habitation center includes
graves of the so-called Licodia Eubea type, with grave
goods comprising imported Corinthian or Attic vases and
locally made pottery of Licodia type.
