TREBENNA
Turkey.
Site in Lycia, near Karcibayiri at the N end of the Sivri Dağ, ca. 17 km W of
Antalya. The termination of the name is uncertain. Not
mentioned by any ancient writer and known only from
its coins and from inscriptions found on the spot or in
the neighborhood. From one of the latter it appears that
Trebenna was a member of the Lycian League in the
3d c. A.D. Hellenistic coins of League type inscribed
ΤΠ
can hardly be attributed to Trebenna, which at that time
belonged rather to Pamphylia; the only certain coinage
is of the time of Gordian III.
The ruins are on a small steep hill, which carries fortifications of mediaeval or later date; earlier remains are
confined to a handful of inscriptions built into the walls,
and a few sarcophagi. Trebenna is not to be confused
with Trebenda, a dependency of Myra.
