URVINUM HORTENSE
(Collemancio) Umbria, Italy.
A municipium of the tribus Stellatina, situated
on a hill overlooking the Clitumnus valley from the W.
The epithet Hortense is odd, and the relation to Urvinum
Metaurense is obscure. It was presumably here, not at
Urvinum Metaurense, that Vitellius' lieutenant Fabius
Valens was killed (Tac.
Hist. 3.62). Excavations have
uncovered a road, a stylobate of a Republican temple,
and part of an Imperial baths (or villa) 300 m N of the
modern village.
