BOURTON ON THE WATER Gloucestershire, England.

Where the Fosse Way crosses the Windrush river, 5 km SW of Stow on the Wold and 24 km NE of Cirencester. Discoveries made here from 1875 on indicate that, beginning with a small posting station on the Roman road, a settlement extended 1.2 km E along the N bank of the river toward the pre-Roman oppidum of Salmonsbury. Many buildings and streets have been ldentified, dating from the 1st to the 5th c.
