of Sarajevo, the remains of Roman buildings and carved
tombstones dating from the 2d and 3d c. The epitaphs
mention the family names Aelius and Aurelius, indicating
the period of romanization of the native population. A
Christian church from the 6th c., contains a tombstone
with the inscription: “. . . princeps Desitiati(um) . . . ,”
indicating the residence here of the Desidiati, an Illyrian
tribe. A pillar was found here with traces of runes associated with the Alamans.
