[937] ἀσχάλλοις from root σεχ, prop. “not to hold oneself,” “to be impatient,” the opposite of the notion expressed by σχο-λή （Curt. Etym. 170）: the word occurs in Her., Xen., Dem.; and in Hom. Od. 2.193 replaces the epic ἀσχαλάαν. Cp. Aesch. Ag. 1049 “πείθοι᾽ ἄν, εἰ πείθοι᾽, ἀπειθοίης δ᾽ ἴσως.”
