[1178] “I gave up the child through pity,” ὡς ... δοκῶν, “as thinking” etc.: i.e., as one might fitly give it up, who so thought. This virtually elliptic use of ὡς is distinct from that at 848, which would here be represented by ὡς ἀποίσοντι.

ἄλλην χθόνα ἀποίσειν αὐτόν: cp. Soph. OC 1769θήβας δ᾽ ἡμᾶς τὰς ὠγυγίους πέμψον.
