[288] διπλοῦς ι πομπούς he had sent two successive messages—one messenger with each. πομπός = one who is sent to escort（πέμπειν） or fetch a person （Soph. OC 70）. The words could mean （as Ellendt takes them） “two sets of messengers”: but the other view is simpler, and consists equally well with οἵδε in 297.
