ἀντέχοντα, holding over against, from the primary sense of “ἀντί”: so with dat. (“ὄμμασι”) Ph. 830. —Perhaps nothing else in Greek literature leaves on the mind an impression so nearly akin to that of the awful vision in Job (iv. 15, 16).
