δῆτ̓, “"then,"” a comment on the speech of Oed. rather than on the words of the Chorus, as oft in questions (cp. 602). ἐκβάλοι: properly, “"cast out of doors,"” as a worthless thing: hence, “"reject,"” “"repudiate"”: Eur. fr. 362. 45 “προγόνων παλαιὰ θέσμι᾽ ὅστις ἐκβαλεῖ”: Plat. Crito 46B “τοὺς δὲ λόγους, οὓς ἐν τῷ ἔμπροσθεν ἔλεγον, οὐ δύναμαι νῦν ἐκβαλεῖν”. Others take it literally, “"cast out of the land,"” so that “ἀνδρὸς εὐμένειαν τοιοῦδε”=“ἄνδρα εὐμενῆ τοιόνδε”. But the notion of rashly scorning what is really precious gives more point both here and in 636.
