πρόθες τοῦτο, set him this as a task (cp. 1249), βαστάζειν, for him to take in hand (suscipiendum); the act. inf. as O. C. 231πόνον...ἀντιδίδωσιν ἔχειν”. For the lit. sense of the verb cp. Ai. 827ὥς με βαστάσῃ πεπτῶτα” (raise me).

τοῦ νεκροῦ γ᾽: but “ἐπίσκοποι τῶν ἀστῶν” are still needed.
