ἀστραπὴ . . . καὶ βροντή. These signs, ‘thunder and lightning,’ the omens of the supreme god, Ormazd, ‘confirmed’ him as king; they ‘happened as it were in agreement’ with the horse-omen sent by the sun-god Mithra. Cf. Xen. Cyr. i. 6. 1 for similar signs to Cyrus, when beginning his attack on the Medes.
