Teres was the father of Sitalces and the founder of the Odrysian power (Thuc. ii. 29). As Sitalces is mentioned below without any comment, Blakesley argues this chapter was written after he had become known at Athens by his capture of the Lacedaemonians' envoys (vii. 137. 3). It certainly reads like a later addition. The events referred to must have happened soon after the accession of Sitalces, which is dated circ. 450 B. C.
