The worship of Demeter and Cora in Triphylia was thought to be explained by the alternation of good and bad years (“τάχα διὰ τὰς ὑπεναντιότητας”) according to Demetrius of Scepsis ap. Strab. 344 “καὶ γὰρ εὔκαρπός ἐστι καὶ ἐρυσίβην γεννᾷ καὶ θρύον ἡ Τριφυλία: διόπερ ἀντὶ μεγάλης φορᾶς πυκνὰς ἀφορίας γίνεσθαι συμβαίνει κατὰ τοὺς τόπους”.
