.ἀνεκομίζοντο, ‘were meanwhile on their way back.’

ἑκκαίδεκα Cf. vi. 104 and vii. 7.

τὴν Λευκαδίαν properly ‘the territory of Leucas,’ but the name is apparently used indifferently with that of Λευκάς for the island itself. So Ρ̀οδία, etc.

φυλακὴν ἔχων τῶν . . . The article implies that these and other ships were naturally expected by the Athenians.

αἱ λοιπαὶ by partitive apposition takes up the construction begun with ἀποληφθεῖσαι. Strictly we should have ἀποληφθεισῶν καὶ κοπεισῶν.
