ἐκ τοῦ τοιούτου, i.e. in consequence of Phrynichus' trickery and advice.

καὶ ὣς ‘already, as it was’ = ‘in any case.’ Cf. c. 56, § 3; c. 87, § 3 (καὶ γὰρ ὣς αὐτοῖς οὐδὲν ἔμελλε χρήσεσθαι), and elsewhere. So οὐδ᾽ ὣς (i. 132), μηδ᾽ ὣς (i. 74).

μέλλουσα sc. τειχισθήσεσθαι.

ἐπιστολαὶ the plural used of one letter. Cf. i. 132.
