TURRIS MAECENATIANA

the tower from which Nero is said to have witnessed the burning of Rome (Suet. Nero 38). It probably stood in the HORTI MAECENATIS (q.v.) on the Esquiline, and may be referred to by Horace (Carm. iii. 29. 10: molem propinquam nubibus arduis).
