[250] δύναται. Expressing what we call a ‘moral impossibility,’ equivalent to ‘dares not,’ ‘has not the heart to do it.’ So Od.13. 331“τῷ σε καὶ οὐ δίναμαι προλιπεῖν”. With τελευτὴν ποιῆσαι = ‘to bring matters to a conclusion,’ ‘to put an end to the wooing,’ compare the similar expression ( Od.24. 126) “ἡ δ᾽ οὔτ᾽ ἠρνεῖτο στυγερὸν γάμον οὔτε τελεύτα”.
