[419] ἐπὶ πήχει ἑλών, taking (and placing) on the “πῆχυς” or ‘elbow,’ i.e. on the middle part which joined the two ‘horns,’ as the elbow joins the two parts of the arm. For the brachylogy or ‘pregnant’ use of ἑλών cp. 15. 206 “νηῒ δ᾽ ἐνὶ πρύμνῃ ἐξαίνυτο κάλλιμα δῶρα”, also 13. 274 (note).
