[646] For ποδηνεκές we should perhaps read “ποδηνεκἔ” as part of the predicate, cf. 13.340ἃς εἶχον ταμεσίχροας”. But the text, which has almost unanimous MS. support, is defensible; the objection of course is that “ἕρκος ἀκόντων” is the sort of phrase that should stand by itself, as in 4.137. Compare the use of “ἕρκος Ἀχαιῶν3.229, etc.
