[227] ὅτε μ́η, see 13.319; most MSS. give “ὅτι μή” with Ar., but there is no other instance of this idiom in H., though it is common in Herod. and later writers. It is therefore best to adhere to the known Homeric form “ὅτε”; the fact that it is only here used without a verb is a matter of no significance; see Lange EI p. 467, where the analogy to “ὡς εἰ” and “εἰ μή” without a finite verb is shewn.
