[551] πρὶν . . πάθηισθα, ere that, some other fate shall come on thee, i.e. thou wilt sooner die thyself than raise him from the dead. This is of course not to be taken as a threat on Achilles' part, as some have thought. For καί van L. reads “κεν”. For the asyndeton with “πρίν” cf. 1.29.
