[409] ὅ γε might seem to emphasize the second clause, ‘or even his slave.’ But in other passages it merely resumes the original subject, as Od. 2.327 “ἤ τινας ἐκ Πύλου ἄξει .. ἢ ὅ γε καὶ Σπάρτηθεν”: so Od. 3.214, 12.239, etc.; “‘nunc dextra ingeminans ictus, nunc ille sinistra,’” Virg. Aen. v. 457 . The scholia on Od. 4.12 note δούλη as a suspicious word for the regular “δμωιή”. It occurs only in these two places (but “δούλιον ἦμαρ” 6.463, Od. 14.340, Od. 17.323, “δούλειον” Od. 24.252, “δουλοσύνη” Od. 22.423).
