[454] κρουνῶν ἐκ μεγάλων seems simply to denote the great body of water ‘fed from mighty springs.’ The χαράδρη will be the ravine leading down to the “μισγάγκεια”. The simile is imitated in Virg. Aen. ii. 307Virg. Aen., xii. 523.
