[63] Herodotos was obviously thinking of this line when he said of the ships which the Athenians sent at the request of Aristagoras to help the Ionians against the Persians, “αὗται αἱ νέες ἀρχὴ κακῶν ἐγένοντο Ἕλλησί τε καὶ βαρβάροισι,” v. 97.
