[73] 73-4. This couplet was athetized by Ar., and seems quite indefensible. The dual ἑζέσθην must be meant to stand for the plural; there is no reason why Zeus should have taken two fates for each side. Matters are not mended by the alternative “ἕζεσθεν” mentioned by Schol. The A. lines seem to be a gloss on 72. The sinking of the Achaians' fates (or souls?) is evidently symbolical of descent to Hades, 22.213.
