ἀμφιπολ-εύω , Ep. Verb (used by Hdt.) mostly in pres.: aor., Ἐφ.
A.“Ἀρχ.” 1910.397 (Ambracia):—serve as an attendant, tend, care for (not inIl.), βίον, ὄρχατον, ἵππους, Od.18.254, 24.244, h.Merc.568; of templeslaves, serve, have the care of, “ἀμφιπολεύουσαν ἱρὸν Διός” Hdt.2.56; of the departed soul, “Ὀσίριδος θῶκον” Epigr.Gr.414 (Alexandria); “ψυχὴ σκῆπτρον Ῥαδαμάνθυος ἀ.” IG14.1389i47.
2. abs., [“τὰς κούρας] ἔδοσαν . . Ἐρινύσιν ἀμφιπολεύειν” Od.20.78, cf. Hes.Op.803; hold the yearly office of ἀμφίπολος, IG12(9).906 (Cbalcis).
3. c. dat., minister to, as priest, Q.S.13.270; Ἀρτέμιτι Ἐφ.Ἀρχ.l.c.; “Διί” IG 14.574 (Centuripa); θεῷ Αὐγούστῳ ib.601 (Malta).
