ἐπανθ-ίζω ,
A.deck as with flowers, make bright-coloured, ἐ. τινὶ ἐρύθημα give one a red tint, Luc.Hist. Conscr.13; ἐλέφαντα ἐ. τῷ χρυσῷ ib.51; brighten, give lustre to a dye, PHolm.17.9, al.:—Pass., “χρώμασιν ἐπηνθισμένος” D.S.1.49.
2. metaph., deck as with flowers, decorate, adorn, “κωκυτοῖς ἐ. παιᾶνα” A. Ch.150; “πολλοῖς ἐ. πόνοισι γενεάν” Id.Th.949:—Pass., “ἀπαγγελία ἐπηνθισμένη ὀνόμασι ποιητικοῖς” Philostr.VS1.15.4.—The aor. Med. ἐπηνθίσω is prob. corrupt in A.Ag.1459 (lyr.).
