ὀλέκω , impf. without augm.
A.ὄλεκονIl.11.150 ; Iterat. ὀλέκεσκον (v.l. ὀλέεσκον) 19.135 :—pres. ὀλέσκω Phot., Suid. :—ruin, destroy, kill, Hom. always in last sense, and mostly of men, “οἱ δ᾽ ἀλλήλους ὀλέκουσινIl.18.172, cf. 15.249, Theoc.22.108, etc. ; but in Od.22.305, of birds which prey on smaller birds, οἱ δέ τε τὰς ὀλέκουσιν ἐπάλμενοι : in Philos., “τίκτει τ᾽ ὀλέκει τεEmp.17.4 :—Pass., perish, die, esp. a violent death, “ὀλέκοντο δὲ λαοίIl.1.10, cf. 16.17.—Chiefly Ep., used by Trag. only in lyr., once in Act., τί μ᾽ ὀλέκεις; S.Ant.1285 (lyr.); twice in Pass., “ὀλέκειA.Pr.563(anap.); “ὠλεκόμανS.Tr. 1012 (lyr.): later, LXXJb.10.16 :—Pass., ib.17.1.
