τραγῳδός 1 ἀοιδός, ᾠδός

I.properly, a goat-singer (v. τραγῳδία), i. e. a tragic poet and singer, these characters being orig. one, Ar.:—later, when the poets ceased to act, the term meant a tragedian or tragic actor, the tragic poet being called τραγῳδοποιός or τραγῳδοδιδάσκαλος.
2.of members of the tragic chorus, Ar.
II.the pl. is often used = τραγῳδία, ἐν τοῖσι τραγῳδοῖς in tragedy, id=Ar., Dem., etc.
