Caudium

A town in Samnium on the road from Capua to Beneventum. In the neighbourhood were the celebrated Furculae Caudinae, or Caudine Forks, narrow passes in the mountains, where a Roman army surrendered to the Samnites, and was sent under the yoke, B.C. 321. It is now called the valley of Arpaia.
