Maiūma

A May-day festival celebrated at Rome by the inhabitants, who on this occasion made up excursion parties to visit the sea-shore at Ostia and bathe in the salt-water. The name is not found in the early Latin writers, but the Cod. Theod. (xv. 6, 1 and 2) speaks of it as an old custom revived in later times.
