DOLO

DOLO (δόλων).

1. A weapon consisting of a long staff with a short iron point (Verg. A. 7.664, and Varro, ap. Serv. ib., “ingens contus cum ferro brevissimo;” Sil. 3.250).

2. A secret poniard or dagger inserted in a walking-stick (Plut. TG 10; Hesych. sub voce Suet. Cl. 13, Domit. 17; Isid. Or. 18.9, 4) or a whip (Dig. 9, 2, 52). 3. A small top-sail [NAVIS].
