Αὐαλίτης), the modern
Zeyla, in Abyssinia, was a deep bay on the eastern coast of Africa, in lat. 11° N., SW. of the Straits of
Bab-el-Man-deb. At the head of the bay was a town Avalites; and the inhabitants of the immediate district were called Avalitae. They were dependent upon the kingdom of Axum.
