ANCHI´ALE

ANCHI´ALE (Ἀγχιάλη: Akiali), a small town on the western coast of the Euxine, to the north of Apollonia, to which its inhabitants were subject. (Strab. vii. p.319.) The Latin writers, who mention the place, call it Anchialus or Anchialum. (Ov. Tr. 1.9. 36; Pomp. Mel. 2.2; Plin. Nat. 4.18; comp. Ptol. 3.11.4.)
