PHTHIRA
PHTHIRA (
Φθίρα,)
Steph. B. sub voce written
Φθίρ in Meineke's edition of Stephanus), a mountain in Caria, inhabited by the Phthires, is evidently the same as the
Φθειρῶν ὄρος of Homer (
Hom. Il. 2.868), which, according to Hecataeus, was identical with Mt. Latmus, but which others supposed to be the same as Mt. Grius, running parallel to Mt. Latmus. (
Strab. xiv. p.635.)
