PASA´RGADAE

PASA´RGADAE (Πασαργάδαι), according to Herodotus, one of the three chief tribes of the ancient Persians (1.125); according to other writers, a people of the adjoining province of Carmania (Ptol. 6.8.12; Dionys. A. R. 5.1069). The probability is, that they were the inhabitants of Pasargadae in Persis.
