VEDIANTII
Eth.
VEDIANTII (Eth.
Οὐεδιάντιοι,
Ptol. 3.1.41), a Ligurian tribe, who inhabited the foot of the Maritime Alps near the mouth of the
Var. Both Pliny (
3.5. s. 7) and Ptolemy assign to them the town of Cemenelium or
Cimiez near
Nice: the latter also includes in their territory Sanitium; but this must certainly be a mistake, that town, which answers to the modern
Senez, being far off to the NW. (D'Anville,
Géogr. des Gaules, p. 682.) [
