VEDIANTII

Eth. VEDIANTII (Eth. Οὐεδιάντιοι, Ptol. 3.1.41), a Ligurian tribe, who inhabited the foot of the Maritime Alps near the mouth of the Var. Both Pliny (3.5. s. 7) and Ptolemy assign to them the town of Cemenelium or Cimiez near Nice: the latter also includes in their territory Sanitium; but this must certainly be a mistake, that town, which answers to the modern Senez, being far off to the NW. (D'Anville, Géogr. des Gaules, p. 682.) [E.H.B] [p. 2.1261]
