[*] 255. The want of a first person in the imperative is supplied by the first person of the subjunctive, which expresses both positive and negative exhortations and appeals (the negative with μή). Ἄγε, ἄγετε, εἰ δ᾽ ἄγε, φέρε, ἴθι, δεῦρο, and δεῦτε (251) may precede this subjunctive; so sometimes ἔα, permit, let.
