ἀναστασέως. Understand ὑπέρ, which=περί here as with μέρους, though in a different sense. “To save themselves from utter destruction.”

Ἀμφιπολιτῶν . . . Πυδναίων. The Scholiast says that in each case he lost no time in putting to death those who helped him by their treachery; but we have no trustworthy evidence.

ὅλως, “generally speaking.”

πολιτείαις, “free communities,” a term applied to any form of government administered by πολῖται, and so excluding τυραννίς only: but it is often specially used of democracies.

ὅμορον (ὁμοῦ and ὅρος).
