δῆλον δ᾽ ἐκ τῶν ἔργων: ἀποβὰς γάρ: for the omission of the copula and the use of γάρ cp. § 8 σημεῖον δὲ μέγιστον and note. περιιδεῖν, εἰ, ‘wait and see whether,’ lit. ‘look around to see if’. περιορᾶν is much more frequently used in the sense of to ‘overlook’, i. e. ‘look on without noticing’, so ‘allow’, ‘suffer’, followed by the acc. of the participle; cp. ad N. 16 ἢν μήθ᾽ ὑβρίζειν τὸν ὄχλον ἐᾷς μήθ̓ ὑβριζόμενον περιορᾷς. ὥσπερ εἶχε, ‘as he was.’ ἔχω is frequently used as an auxiliary with adverbs (cp. § 49 ἀπροσοίστως καὶ χαλεπῶς εἶχον, &c.) and, as here, with adverbial conjunctions. διαγαγών: see note on § 24 for the meaning of διάγειν.
