Mompesson, Roger 1703-1715

Jurist; born in England; was appointed judge of the viceadmiralty for Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania in April, 1703; and settled in Pennsylvania in 1704. Though highly spoken of as a man and a lawyer, he was a mere tool in the hands of Lord Cornbury, the governor of New York and New Jersey. He died in March, 1715, some authorities say in New Jersey, others in New York.
