Rodman, Thomas Jefferson 1815-1871

Military officer: born in Salem, Ind., July 30, 1815; graduated at West Point in 1841; entered the ordnance department; brevetted brigadier-general in 1865; promoted lieutenant-colonel, United States army, in 1867; best known as the inventor of the Rodman gun and for his services in the manufacture of ordnance and projectiles. He died in Rock Island, Ill., June 7, 1871.
